Prof. Jason White
I had an excellent visit to Taipei and to Soochow University. My experience at the university was enhanced with the many chances made available to me for interacting with the students and faculty. I found the students to be enthusiastic, talented, and inquisitive. They engaged with the science with the curiosity of children, but with the professionalism of seasoned experts. Beyond the seminar and the classroom, I was able to witness, during my walks across campus, the friendly and collegial atmosphere of the student body, with many instances of close engagement that I would associate with a close-knit family.
I appreciated the generosity of the faculty by their attending my seminar and staying afterward to continue conversations. To have so many peers, within and outside of science, express their interest in my talk was a most positive experience for me. It was likewise wonderful to see many of my former students and other experts in the field at the seminar.
All of these positive experiences clearly were the product of a thoroughly competent and thoughtful coordinator of activities, Prof. Chang-Sheng Mei. He arranged a perfect event that will become a cherished memory for the students and the faculty of Soochow University. I left Taiwan with the hopes that it won’t be long before I can return again to enjoy the hospitality of the people of Taipei and Soochow University.
